Comebacks in LoL are one of the most euphoric gaming experiences on offer. They can, and do happen. And they feel amazing.

However, because snowballing is a thing, comebacks slip through our fingers, and they’re by no means a dependable League of Legends strategy.


So what’s a reliable way to improve your win/loss ratio? Getting off to a solid start in the first 10 minutes. Let’s look at data from the first 10 minutes across 10,000 games of rated League games in three different divisions.

The typical CS, and per match is lower than you may think because it is taken per game, meaning ADCs (for example) will have considerably higher CS/min, while supports will typically have reduced.


It’s no secret that you don’t want getting all kinds of and to find your team three kills down. It’s interesting to see how consistent this trend is, although we know that it’s important to start strong.

It doesn’t matter if you look at the CS, average gold per minute, XP per minute or even damage taken, the teams furthest ahead at 10 minutes win more matches overall. This effect is consistent from Bronze to Challenger, too. So developing the practice of strengthening your game’s initial ten minutes is as you climb through the divisions a League of Legends strategy that can help you consistently.


It is important to note that we are not saying if your team is supporting by this stage of the game you should AFK. Yes, even if your ADC is on the end of a feeding frenzy, things would have to be pretty dire to telephone GG by 10 minutes. Clawing back a triumph from an enemy team that is snowballed wildly out of control by late game is tough, but clawing back an advantage lost in the first 10 minutes of play is typically not so challenging.

How can you get off to a start that is stronger all around?

Because this strategy is already used by MOBA players this section is for the people who underestimate how important this information is. Your creep score is a fundamental skill to master. You’ve probably seen the graphs that show the CS of players in the various League divisions. It’s a clear indicator of what is holding you back. This will not apply to you if you’re a service, but it’s good to know either way.


If you don’t do this , start loading up custom LoL games with no players and no bots and aim to acquire a minimum of 70 CS in the first ten minutes.

If you can not reach 70 CS in the first ten minutes when you’re in a game all by yourself, how can you hope to achieve it when you’ve got enemies in lane depriving you, attempting to zone out you and an ever-present threat of ganks in the jungle and mid lane?


This is a minimum. A perfect CS for the first 10 minutes in LoL is 107. You get to overlook 37 creeps for every practice run. If you can’t achieve that, you will need to fire up those custom games. Then keep practicing and up your benchmark if you can.

I promise that once you start committing this ability to autopilot, you will free up your focus for things, such map awareness and decision making. You’ll have more gold, better things, and get more kills, all paramount to a solid opener in each League game.


If you play junglers and get comfortable with a particular route around the camps, you probably fire up games and take the exact same route each time. But have you considered how you may be even further ahead by the 10 minute mark?

Pretty much the exact principles here apply as mentioned previously, whether quantity of ganks, CS, or gold are your benchmarks. Check out YouTube, hit up Google and search for your champion jungle starts in the internet for ideas and hints.


Okay, so research is currently queuing another game. Create benchmarks for the first 10 minutes and try to beat them.

Do NOT push the lane...

This is such a mistake I decided to write a whole guide about it which we’ll be publishing.


If you head to your lane start a game and immediately start auto-attacking creeps, you’re doing it wrong. We’re not farming murlocs in World of Warcraft here.

The creep line is as quickly as possible pushed by killing creeps out towards the tower of the enemy. When that happens, it not only makes it far more difficult to get the kill on them, but it leaves you wide open to backstabs from the river. It is a dangerous and miserable place.


Control the creep line and your strategy in the start of League of Legends games should to continue hit. That way, you don’t push the lane and needlessly put yourself in that vulnerable place. In truth, there is a lot more to lane control in League of Legends and we will have a look at this time.

But the important thing at this time is to be conscious of not getting to the lane and auto attacking creeps in minute 1 so you end up farming directly under the enemy tower. A frequent outcome is that you eliminate this precious first 10 minutes of this game because of an easily-avoided asswhooping in the enemy jungler or midlane.


Seek an early ward advantage

An early ward edge can mean the difference between an effective gank and an ally wasting a trip to your lane. Either scenario can contribute either positively or negatively to the metrics seen in the graphs above all.


For instance, if you dash Sightstone, make sure you pick up a Sweeping Lens at the same time so that you can drop it next time your jungler rotates to your side of the map. I am guilty of forgetting to change and update my trinket, and I’m working on it. If you de-ward the enemy at the tribrush or river, then a prosperous gank becomes more likely, so it’s a valuable LoL strategy that can make a difference.

You know replacing and placing wards wins games. So search for ways to do it better in the first 10 minutes. If you’re an ADC or other function, use your trinket wards invest 75 gold in a vision ward to put somewhere sneaky you think it won’t get seen easily by the enemy.


Specialize in champs

Knowing the winners you play inside and outside is more efficient use of your time when climbing the ladder compared to playing lots of different champs from lots of different roles.


Personally, I would love nothing more than to select 5 champions in each function and play whichever one I felt like on the day and work my way quickly to Diamond.

But, the truth is, picking my favorite two roles and a few champs from each helps me quickly understand their limits, skills, power spikes item builds and all the other factors that contribute to more wins. When you have got CSing dialed and executing your winner’s abilities, mechanics and combos all committed to muscle memory, you free up more brainpower for decision making and sticking to what you heard about these all-important enemy match ups. We’ll look at those in a second.


Learn your matchups

Knowing enemy matchups will give you invaluable intel that makes all the difference to the way you play in the first 10 minutes and, consequently, who profits which early advantage.


By way of example, if you’re playing a squishy support up against an enemy duo using a snare and a gap closer, such as possibly Ezreal and Morgana, you want to be super awake and perform a little more passively than normal. As soon as they unlock the ideal skills, you’ll get caught out, burst and lose the early advantage.

As for me, I’ve started a Microsoft OneNote file for League and made a segment where I take notes of enemy match ups for my favorite champs and will develop it together with other League champions over time.


When you take time to examine matchups, you start to know useful things that you are laning buddy might not. Say so in conversation, if you have a plan in mind for an early kill or if there’s danger from an matchup.

You’ve got a moment or two ahead of the game and, while I do agree that it is irresistibly tempting to /dance with your crew while awaiting the Krugs to spawn for a jungle leash not use it productively? Communication with teammates may mean the difference between getting in those first 10 minutes.


The tunnel vision trap

Beware the tunnel vision trap that is tempting. I am every bit as guilty of this as you and just about everyone else out there at times. But the further we make an effort to avert it, the less likely we are to get too attached to that kill and overextend under the enemy’s tower only to have all salty about the awkward death your teammates end up flaming you for.


It’s wonderful to have a reminder. But if you need even more motivation not to get all obsessed over the fact you”just want one more autoattack!” , here’s why your farm is more significant than that kill.

Farm over kills

Frequently in lane, people go all-in upon arrival in level play, excited for that ancient kill.


Bear in mind that 70 CS / 10 minute benchmark we looked at earlier? That goes down the toilet because you tried to make when you should not have, kill. After walking back to lane, you’re hitting that.

Farming is gold that is reliable. Kills . reward, so getting all excited about your KDR and trying a kill once your enemy is positioned safely and has a Braum ready to pounce in your way simply isn’t worth it.


Downward spiral trap

The same rules for tunnel vision apply that we talked about in, Learning League of Legends’ Art. Tunnel vision is but there are other things.


For instance, if the enemy pulls off successful early ganks in your side of the map, the painful realization that your Twisted Fate is playing overly aggressive and out of place or anything else which may get your mad, that is when you stop playing well. Keep looking for those openings

Like farming, CSing or team fighting could be regarded as part of your game. Keep trying to fortify the number of games to increase and use the advice in this report you gain an early advantage during this time period that is all-important and your win loss ratio is sure to go up over the long term.
