Continuing our series for all those noobs who are currently making their first forays we thought we’d compile overviews of some of the greatest games that were esports around. And where better to begin than with LoL? So, what is League of Legends and that is it appropriate for?

In a nutshell

League of Legends is a competitive online game by Riot Games, where you wage war on other players or bots across a variety of battle stadium maps. It is hugely popular across the globe, and you can test your battle skills from anywhere in the world. In 2014, it is estimated that in excess of 67,000,000 people and LoL regularly play with, with an average of 27,000,000 people playing everyday.


There’s a variety of different game modes to try and, you can compete in series tournaments and matches, as you improve. If you get really good — and market yourself you can take cash prizes!

The Game

You decide on a winner to become your”character”. As of December 2014, there are 123 distinct champions, each with their own distinctive look, style, and skills. You play fighting to the death against the other group, consisting of other world players or AI players. While there is an array of game modes, in many, the point of this game is to destroy the nexus structure of the team.



In League of Legends, unlike a lot of other games, all opponents start our fairly weak, irrespective of how long they have been playing the game. Teams and players gain experience and tools as they advance through the game. LoL uses a matchmaking algorithm to ensure all players in the session have a normal skill level unless you wish to make a custom team, in to ensure a fair and good battle. This system makes players are not pitted against LoL master players that are uber. New players can also get into the tutorial mode and the co-op vs. AI mode, which enables new players to gain experience and skill and hone their plans.


Who’s LoL For?

A word of caution: League of Legends might not be for you, If you’re an individual who participates working with other people. It’s a team game. You need to work together with the other members of your team, to be successful. If you go off guns blazin’ and do your thing, you won’t get much. If you don’t like strategy games, this one’s probably not for you. You can play with League of Legends if you’re new to gambling or esports, as long as you’re prepared to work for the good of your team to reach the win. Complete the tutorials as you master the fundamentals and play bot matches and get to grips with the matches. Playing spiders is a way of honing your skills.
